Professor Tsunghui Chang from the Data-driven Intelligent Information System Laboratory has been Elected as an IEEE Fellow
Recently, Professor Tsunghui Chang, Associate Director of the Data-driven Intelligent Information System Laboratory at Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data, and Associate Professor and the Assistant Dean (Education) of the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, was elected as an IEEE Fellow for the year 2023. Professor Tsunghui Chang was elected for his contributions to distributed optimization methods and their applications in signal processing and wireless communications.
IEEE, short for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, is an international society for electrical and information science and engineering professionals. It was founded on January 1st, 1963, and is headquartered in New York City, USA. With over 420,000 members in more than 160 countries, IEEE has 39 technical societies that lead the latest developments in fields such as signal and information processing, power, electronics, computer, communication, control, remote sensing, biomedical, intelligent transportation, and space technologies.
IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership in IEEE, and it is recognized as a prestigious honor and an important professional achievement in the academic and technological community. It is awarded annually to about 300 members selected by IEEE peers from among the senior or life members who have made significant contributions to the advancement or application of engineering, science, and technology that bring significant value to society. The number of fellows elected each year does not exceed 1% of the total IEEE membership for that year. Since the number of IEEE Fellows elected each year is relatively small, those elected are typically outstanding scientists who have made significant achievements in the fields of science and engineering.

Tsung-Hui Chang is currently an Associate Professor and the Assistant Dean (Education) of the School of Science and Engineering (SSE), The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-SZ), China, the Associate Director of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Big Data Computing and Associate Director of the Data-driven Intelligent Information System Laboratory at Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data. He received a B.S. degree in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. degree in communications engineering from the National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 2003 and 2008, respectively. Before joining the CUHK-SZ, he was with the NTHU, the University of California, Davis, and the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) as a postdoctoral researcher and a faculty member. His research interests include signal processing and optimization methods for data communications and machine learning.
Dr. Chang is an Elected Member of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Signal Processing for Communications and Networking Technical Committee (SPCOM TC) (2020/01-), the Founding Chair of the IEEE SPS Integrated Sensing and Communication Technical Working Group (ISAC TWG), and the elected Regional Director-at-Large of Board of Governors of IEEE SPS (2022/01-). He received the Young Scholar Research Award of NTUST in 2014, the IEEE ComSoc Asian-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award in 2015, the IEEE SPS Best Paper Awards in 2018 and 2021, and the Outstanding Faculty Research Award of SSE of CUHK-SZ. He has served on the editorial board for major SP journals, including an Associate Editor of IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SIGNAL PROCESSING (2014/08-2018/12), IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SIGNAL AND INFORMATION PROCESSING OVER NETWORKS (2015/01-2018/12), IEEE OPEN JOURNAL OF SIGNAL PROCESSING (2020/01-present), and a Senior Area Editor of IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SIGNAL PROCESSING (2021/02-present).
